Get on the Road with a New License or Permit

If your driving privileges have not been suspended or revoked, a replacement license or permit could be issued. Some common reasons include: stolen or lost license/permit, name changes, residence/mailing address switch, adding information, or replacing a license issued that had a mistake on it.

How to Obtain a Pennsylvania Driver's License When You Have an Out of State Driver's License:

Go to the Department of Motor Vehicles and surrender your out of state driver's license for a Pennsylvania driver's license. When you visit the Department of Motor Vehicles, take your Social Security card and another form of identification containing your signature. Acceptable forms of signature identification include:

  • Pennsylvania driver's license, photo ID card, photo welfare card
  • Photographic ID - Military, bank, employee, school, out of state license
  • Documents - Passport, citizenship of naturalization, weapons permit
  • Non-Photo - Voter's registration, Medicare card, PA learner's permit or temporary driver's license, vehicle registration

How to Obtain a Duplicate License to Replace a Lost or Stolen License:

Come into the office with any two of the following forms of identification:

  • Alien Registration Receipt Card (Immigration and Naturalization Form I-151 or I-551)
  • Birth Certificate with Raised Seal
  • Certificate of Naturalization (Form N-550 or N-570)
  • Major Credit Card (Signed)
  • Marriage Record
  • Medicaid Card
  • Medicare Card
  • Organ Donor Card
